Albrecht Dürer
Dates: German, 1471 - 1528
Biographical Account:

Dürer was a German artist, print maker and art theorist of the northern European Renaissance. In 1486, at the age of 15 he became an artists’ apprentice. After his initial apprenticeship, Dürer travelled around Europe, a customary part of German artistic training, during which the work of Venetian artists particularly influenced him.

On his return to Germany, Dürer set up his own print workshop, but also had a successful career as a painter. In his final years, Dürer produced influential books on geometry and aesthetics, the proportions of measurement and of the human body.
