Biographical Account: The firm began in 1821 as Miller & Wolstenholme, then between 1822 and 1823 the partnership changed to Samuel & Joseph Wolstenholme with premises at Spring Street. From 1824 to 1857 Joseph ran the business, moving to Broad Street in 1828. With various different partnerships the business continued up to 1895. Wolstenholme was the first company to introduce the word ‘Sheffield’ to their maker’s mark, recognising the importance of association with Sheffield’s great metalworking reputation.
