Keith Vaughan was born on 23 August 1912. At the age of 9 he was sent to Christ’s Hospital boarding school, where he was taught French and German and also developed an interest in music.
He was a self taught artist working as a trainee at an advertising agency. It was during this time that his interests in Modern art grew. He started drawing in his free time, mainly in ink, watercolour and gouache and in 1939 he left the advertising agency to try and become a painter.
