Ferdinand von Mueller
Dates: 1825 - 1896
Biographical Account: Ferdinand von Mueller was a hugely important botanist living in Australia during the 19th century.  He acted as the government botanist for the Victoria colony from 1853 and became the director of the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne in 1857.  He described over 2500 new species to science during his career.  He provided a single specimen to the Gatty collection, probably through William Henry Harvey.
