David Teniers II

Biographical Account:

 

David Teniers II was born on 15 December 1610 in Antwerp, Flanders. He came from an artistic family, his father was David Teniers the Elder, his son David Teniers III and his grandson David Teniers IV were also painters.

 

Tenniers II studied with his father, and was influenced by Peter Paul Rubens, Adam Elsheimer and Adriaen Brouwer.

 

Teniers fought to establish the Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts and succeeded on the 26 January 1663.

 

During his lifetime, he painted over 900 painting, of daily life, landscapes and figures and religious scenes. He was considered to be one of the greatest painters in Europe.

 

Teniers died in Brussels on 25 April 1690.
