Miss Sarah Ann Slater
Dates: born 1851
Biographical Account: Sarah Ann Slater was the eldest daughter of Benjamin Slater, a house painter from Liverpool, and Ann Slater, who was born in Sheffield. Sarah Ann also had a younger brother named Benjamin. The 1861 census shows the family inhabiting a small house at 132 Blonk Street, on the banks of the river Don, in the Brightside area of the city. The site was part of the ecclesiastical parish of Wicker. As a young girl, Sarah Ann attended the nearby Lancasterian School for girls, which occupied two sites in the Shalesmoor area of the city - one on Gibraltar Street and another on neighbouring Allen Street.
