Katerina Šedá was born on 12 December 1977 in Brno in the Czech Republic and grew up in Líšen, just outside Brno. She studied at the School of Applied Arts and Crafts in Brno and then under Professor Vladimír Kokolia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. Kokolia had a huge influence upon Šedá's practice.
Šedá has exhibited widely including at the Venice and Berlin Biennales, in Manifesta 7 and at WIELS Contemporary Art Centre in Brussels and Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea in Turin. In 2011 she created a one-day performance at Tate Modern and has had solo-shows at Cubitt Gallery in London, Kunstlerhaus Bremen and Museums Sheffield. In 2012 had her first major retrospective at the Kunstmuseum Luzern in Switzerland.
