Frank Saltfleet was a Yorkshire landscape and marine painter. He was born in Sheffield in 1860 and became apprenticed to a silver plating firm, and then to a cabinet maker, both of which he did not enjoy.

He spent most of his spare time drawing and sketching and from 1880 onwards began exhibiting with the Sheffield Society of Artists. Some of his work was shown to John Ruskin, who encouraged him to continue.

Saltfleet went on to study at the Antwerp Academy of Art, and afterwards travelled around Europe painting the landscape as he went.

After returning to Sheffield after his travels, he was elected member of the Sheffield Society of Artists and was made president in 1894 to 95.

During the First World War, Saltfleet entertained the troops with a ventriloquist act.

He died at 11 Psalter Lane in Sheffield in 1937.
