Annie Maria Pugh
Dates: 1872 - 1976
Biographical Account: Annie Maria Pugh was born in 1872, in Sheffield, Yorkshire. She was the daughter of Walter Pugh, an Iron Moulder who later worked as a Fruiterer and Greengrocer, and Mary Maria Pugh. The 1881 census shows Annie aged 8, living with her parents and eight siblings in Attercliffe, Sheffield. By 1891 Annie had moved to Birmingham to take care of her widowed grandmother, Elizabeth Bruce. Following her grandmother's death in 1895, Annie returned to Sheffield to live with her parents and two of her eight siblings. The family were also able to employ a servant. Annie worked as a shop assistant for her father. In May 1902 Annie married George Boam, an Insurance Agent, at Zion Independent Chapel in Attercliffe. After their marriage the couple moved to nearby Darnall, where they later lived with Annie's mother after she was widowed.
