Joos de Momper II

Biographical Account:

Joos de Momper was born in 1564 in Antwerp, Flanders. He was one of the most important Flemish landscape painters of his time.


He was born into a family of artists, painters, engravers, draughtsmen. His father Bartholomeus taught him how to paint.


During the 1580s he visited Italy to study art, this visit inspired him to include blue mountains in the backgrounds of his compositions.


He died 1635.
