Lida Lopes Cardozo Kindersley
Dates: Dutch, born 1954
Biographical Account:

Cardozo studied graphic design in The Hague’s Royal Academy, and became an apprentice of the sculptor and letter cutter David Kindersley in 1976. She later became a partner in his workshop, and since his death in 1995, runs it herself as the Cardozo-Kindersley workshop.

While Cardozo creates lettering on many different materials, much of her work involves letter-cutting on stone using traditional methods. Members of her workshop avoid using machinery, and she continues the practice of working with apprentices. She is especially interested in the design of lettering, and has written many books on the subject.
