Hew Locke is a contemporary British artist based in Brixton, London. He was born on 13 October 1959 in Edinburgh.

Locke moved to his father’s home town of Georgetown in Guyana in 1966 until 1980 when he returned to the UK to study. He studied Fine Art at Falmouth College of Art, and then went on to complete an Master of Arts in Sculpture from the Royal College of Art, London in 1994.

The work ‘Vulcan’ was commissioned for Museums Sheffield for the exhibition ‘Restless Times’ in 2010.
