Biographical Account: John Linnell was born 1792, in Bloomsbury, London. In 1805 he enrolled at the Royal Academy Schools, London where he was taught by John Varley. Linnell exhibited at Royal Academy, London for much of his life. From an early age he began painting and drawing portraits, but moved towards depicting the English landscape by the 1840s.
