Percy Wyndham Lewis was born on18 November 1882, off
Lewis was a member of Camden Town Group which included Walter Sickert, Harold Gilman and Spencer Frederick Gore. He was also a founding member of the London Group and joined Roger Fry’s Omega Workshops. After falling out with Fry and other members of the Camden Town Group, Lewis set up his own group ‘Vorticist Group’ with CRW Nevinson, William Roberts and others.
During World War 1, Lewis was posted to the western front, he made vivid accounts of narrow misses and deadly artillery duels. He then became an Official War Artist in 1917 to 1918. He worked for both the Canadian and British governments, drawing on his own experience, capturing scenes from the western front.
He died 7 March 1957.
