Biographical Account: This firm has its origins in the 1820s, when John Pearce was trading as a razor manufacturer in Gibraltar Street, Sheffield. In the 1851 census Pearce was recorded as an employer of nine men at Angel Street. The firm of John Pearce has premises at 15 Angel Street in the city centre from 1836 to 1839, and 38 Angel Street between 1840 and 1852. Spoons were their speciality in the earlier years. After his death his son in law Henry Hobson continued to trade using the Pearce name. The trade name and mark, letters 'JP', continued to be used into the 20th century.
