Biographical Account: William Hoyland was the son on John Hoyland. John was a button maker who learnt the trade whilst employed by Thomas Boulsover, the inventor of Old Sheffield Plate. When John died in 1779 the successors to the business were John Trevers Younge, Edmund Greaves and William Hoyland. The partnership lasted until May 1787.
