Mary Jane Holdsworth
Dates: 1840 - 1918
Biographical Account: Mary Jane Holdsworth was born in Aston-cum-Aughton in 1841. Her father worked in the metal industry, possibly as a master cutler. Mary never married and ended up living in the Ecclesall region of Sheffield. She often took in lodgers, some of whom worked at Sheffield University. Shortly after her death in 1918, her substantial collection of Australian taxidermy was given to Weston Park Museum. Sadly, no record was made of how she acquired the specimens.
