Johannes Cornelis Haccou was born in 1798 in Middelburg in the Netherlands. His older brother, Lodewijk Gilles Haccou, was also a painter. Johannes studied with Johannes Hermanus Koekkoek (1778-1851). Haccou travelled through Switzerland, France and Germany and primarily painted landscapes and seascapes. Haccou’s oil paintings and watercolours show great attention to detail in the tradition of the many great masters of the Dutch Golden Age.
Johannes Cornelis Haccou eventually settled in London, where he died in 1839.
