Mary Hope Greg

Biographical Account: Mary Greg (born Mary Hope) was born into a wealthy family in Liverpool. Throughout her life she was interested in natural history, craft and social history, and was an avid collector of everyday objects. She was also a generous patron and philanthropist, setting up a museum for her objects in Westmill, Hertfordshire and donating her collections to various other museums, especially Manchester Art Gallery. She was generous also to the Guild of St George, donating various objects, land and property to the Ruskin Collection. In return she was known as ‘Companion Extraordinaire’.
