Miss Hannah Godber

Biographical Account:

Hannah was born in 1830 in the township of Nether Hallam in Sheffield. She lived in Upper Heeley with her parents and her sister, Mary Ann. She embroidered this sampler in 1841, aged 11 years. Hannah remained living with her family until 1856 when she married Frederick Outram, a local baptist preacher and hookmaker. By 1861 they were living behind 64 Franklin Street, in the township of Ecclesall Bierlow. Hannah and Frederick had four children together, one of whom donated her sampler to the city's collections in 1948. Hannah lived with Frederick and their children in Ecclesall Bierlow until 1902, when she died aged 73.
