Elizabeth Dungworth
Dates: born 1829
Biographical Account: Elizabeth Dungworth was the daughter of William and Elizabeth Dungworth. Elizabeth embroidered her sampler in 1840, aged 11. She is recorded in the 1841 census as living in Sheffield with her family. Elizabeth was the fourth of seven children. She had 3 older broters, 2 younger sisters and one younger brother. Sadly, Elizabeth disappears from the records after 1841. The 1851 census shows her family still living together in the same house, however Elizabeth is missing. It is possible that she may have died young. This would not have been uncommon in the early 1800s and current research suggests that she may have died in 1842 or 1846. Her sampler was kept by her younger sister, who passed it down to subsequent generations.
