Patrick Caulfield
Dates: British, 1936 - 2005
Biographical Account:

Patrick Caulfield was born on 29 January 1936. He went to study at the Chelsea School of Art during the late 1950s and then to the Royal College of Art in the early 60s, where he met David Hockney and Allen Jones.

Caulfield was predominately a painter and printmaker and was best known for being associated with Pop Art, however he was opposed to this label and saw himself as ‘a 'formal' artist’.

From a young age he had an interest in interiors, he liked to invent interiors that he had never seen.

‘I tended to choose things that were slightly past, out of fashion, which would make it more distant.’

He died on 29 September 2005 in London.
