Miss Florence Mary Georgiana Cole
Dates: 1817 - 1888
Biographical Account: Florence Cole was the eldest child of General Sir Galbraith Lowry Cole.  In 1881, living just around the corner from the newly founded Natural History Museum, she was advised by Professor Richard Owen to pass her father's large collection of shells collected from Mauritius to Sheffield Museum.  Elijah Howarth, the curator of the Sheffield Museum at the time visited Miss Cole early in 1881 and selected 418 shells to bring to Sheffield
