Eddie Chambers
Dates: British, born 1960
Biographical Account:

Eddie Chambers is an artist, curator and critic. He was born in Wolverhampton in 1960. He studied Fine Art at Sunderland Polytechnic in 1983 and was awarded a PhD from Goldsmiths College in 1998.

In the early 1980s, Chambers was a founder member of the BLK Art Group, a group of students who organised a series of exhibitions of young Black British artists. The Blk Art Group are referenced today as a key contributor to what has come to be known as ‘the black arts movement’ of 1980s Britain. Their work raised the profile of black artists, who up until then had received little acknowledgement.

Chambers has continued to curate solo and themed exhibitions featuring artists from Britain, the Caribbean, America, and Australia. In 1989 he established the African and Asian Visual Artists’ Archive.
