William Boyd Dawkins
Biographical Account: William Boyd Dawkins was a British geologist and palaeontologist.  He was based at Manchester University, and was the curator of the Manchester Museum.  He is particularly notable for his research into fossils, and particularly proving that animal life in the UK was far more exotic than it is today.  Locally, Boyd Dawkins was one of a team of palaeontologists who excavated the caves at Creswell Crags towards the end of the 19th century.  The specimens he collected were split between several museums across the region, including Buxton Museum and Manchester.  Around 50 of his specimens came to Sheffield.
