Richard Parkes Bonington was born on 25 October 1802 in Arnold, Nottingham. He was the son of Richard Bonington, who was a drawing master and lace maker. In 1817, when Bonington was 14, the family moved to Calais where his father set up a lace factory and Bonnington enrolled at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He was an English Romantic landscape painter and was considered one of the most influential British artists of his time. He died at the very young age of 25 on 23 September 1828 in London.
