Biographical Account: Lemuel Francis Abbott was born in 1760 in Leicestershire. At the age of 15 he moved to London and it has been suggested that he may have been a pupil of Joseph Wright of Derby. He exhibited at the Royal Academy in London between 1788 and 1800. In 1798 he suffered from mental health problems and was admitted to Bethlem Hospital. He died in December 1803 in London.
