This strawberry clover is the oldest known specimen in Sheffield's herbarium. It was collected from somewhere near London in 1773 by William Staniforth, a Sheffield based surgeon. The Boston Tea Party, where American revolutionaries tipped a cargo of tea into Boston Harbour, occurred a few months after this plant was picked. The two events are believed to be unrelated.
