This specimen of marsh stichwort was found in Aldwarke near Rotherham sometime around the turn of the 18th century by the naturalist Jonathon Salt. Salt's herbarium is an extremely important collection, as it can tell us a lot about the local environment prior to industrialisation. This species is normally found in marsh and wetland. Today, Aldwarke is a built up area and there are no records of this species around there, but in 1800, it must have been very different.
