This image is taken from John James Audubon's book 'The Birds of America’; however someone, probably the collector, Thomas Eyton, has cut out the owl and pasted it onto a new sheet of paper. Audubon's original print is large-scale depicts another bird perched above this one, and the whole is set against a dark sky, with a river landscape below.
