In this watercolour Thomas Hennell has painted the docks at Akureyri, a busy fishing town, considered to be the capital of northern Iceland. During the Second World War Hennell spent time recording the military activity in Iceland. Iceland was a strategic location in the war, enabling troops to monitor the routes of the North Atlantic supply convoys to Europe.
