During the Second World War Anthony Gross travelled a great deal around the Middle East. In Egypt, Gross recorded the ground crew resting and waiting for the imminent battle of Alamein, which took place on Friday 23 October 1942.
The battle for the Western Desert was one of the key turning points in the Second World War. In the distance there are Spitfires on the airstrip; 530 planes were involved in the battle.
