In 1910, Frank Bostock brought his Jungle show of exotic animals to Sheffield. He displayed live apes in a specially heated part of the Hawley Street Jungle, called Darwin Villa. This specimen of Chimpanzee was most likely captured as an infant, rather than being born in captivity. The keepers of Darwin Villa tried to raise very young chimps, but were often unsuccessful, particularly as the harsh winters didn't suit these tropical animals. This specimen probably died in the winter of 1910.
