In 1910, Frank Bostock brought his Jungle show of exotic animals to Sheffield. He displayed live apes in a specially heated part of the Hawley Street Jungle, called Darwin Villa. This specimen of Bonobo was named Pat and became a local celebrity as attempts to raise him as a human were publicised in newspapers. His arms were shaved, so he would look more human when wearing clothes during tea parties. Sadly, like many of the exotic animals brought to Britain by menagerists like Bostock, Pat caught a chill in the cold Sheffield climate. He died at the beginning of December 1910.
