During the late 19th and early 20th century, the curator of Weston Park Museum struck up a relationship with Bernard Woodward, the director of the Western Australian Museum. They regularly exchanged specimens from their respective collections. Many of the indiginous Australian mammals in Sheffield's collections resulted from this acquaintenship.
