This peaceful view of Paris explores the effects of light falling on water. C.R.W. Nevinson had been associated with the Futurist Movement earlier in his career but this later work only hints at such modernist concerns, returning to a more traditional view of a city.
Nevinson visited Paris after the First World War, and new Paris well from his time spent there as a young man. In fact during this interwar period he often spent as much time in Paris as in London.
