Roger Fry has been credited with introducing Post-Impressionism to Britain. He did this through two important exhibitions in 1910 and 1912. This painting shows the influence that Paul Cézanne had upon Fry's own work. The French artist was fundamental in shaping Fry's formalist theory about the use of line, mass, space, light and colour. Bo Peep Farm is near Charleston Farmhouse, the home of Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant. In this work Fry uses a vibrant colour palette and flat forms similar to his landscapes of the South of France.
