The Parkgate Iron and Steel Company in Rotherham underwent some major development work in the 1960s. The blast furnace being rebuilt would have been used in the process of smelting iron ore, from which rolled steel was later produced. From 1960, Jack Kettell worked for a haulage company called Leonard Green at Park Gate beneath the shadow of the power station. His painting documents the changes he observed. Leonard Green had a fleet of trucks which delivered the steel made at Parkgate nationwide.
