Robert Bevan began painting in a Pointillist style, inspired by the French artists Gauguin and Renoir, however towards the end of his career his style became more Cubist, painting landscapes with more texture and thicker paint.
This work was most likely painted during his time in the Devon countryside and is a good example of Bevan’s changing style. He has created basic abstract shapes using the natural patterns of the landscape.
