This view of Norfolk Park could have been painted on any day, however, Saltfleet has used this picturesque scene as a subtle social comment on the times. The people playing football are men striking in protest of the pay and conditions down the coal mines of South Yorkshire.
He has used delicate blobs of colours to describe the football players, while a dry brush loaded with strong pigment has been used in the sky and trees.
