This specimen is part of a folio of pressed seaweeds collated by Margaret Gatty and her daughter, Horatia. Almost all of the contents of the folio were collected between 1850 to 1864. The Gattys had access to a huge network of collectors across the world. This specimen appears to have come from someone called J Clough. Judging by the date and place of collection, this is probably Rev John Clough, an army chaplain who was stationed in Rangoon (Yangon) in the 1860s.
