This specimen was collected by an amateur rock collector and palaeontologist name Wilfred Barker. He collected specimens from all around South Yorkshire, particularly from local coal mines. This fossil leaf fell into mud around 300-350 million years ago. After the leaf rotted away, it left behind its impression in the mud, which hardenned and over millions of years, became rock.
