This pot from Winster in Derbyshire is probably of Iron Age date. Similar pots were found nearby at a site called Harborough Rocks. These pots were found with a range of Iron Age objects, which confirmed their date.
Finds from the Iron Age are rare in the Peak District and Iron Age pottery is particularly unusual. Only one large group of Iron Age pottery has been found. This was during excavations at the hillfort at Mam Tor in the 1960s. Only a few other examples are known. This pot is a very rare and unusual find.
