This goblet was designed by Brian Asquith in 1974 and made by the silversmith William Richardson. Richardson previously worked at James Dixon & Sons and has worked as a chaser for the silversmith Brett Payne. Three cups were produced in this design. The first is part of Sheffield's Designated Metalwork Collection, another was commissioned by the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths and the third another is in Brian Asquith's personal collection. The bowl of the goblet has been spun on a lathe. The stem has been hand chased and is in the form of a sheaf of arrows. This is most probably a reference to the Sheffield Coat of Arms, which features a sheaf of arrows as well as three sheaves of wheat on a green field. Chasing is a traditional form of decoration that uses small chisel like tools and a hammer to indent patterns, textures and designs into the surface of a metal object. The chasing on the stem of the goblet was carried out by William Richardson.
