This stainless steel toast rack was made by Viners of Sheffield in the 'Chelsea' pattern in the 1960's. 'Chelsea' was a huge range of cutlery and tableware designed by Gerald Benney who was appointed by Viners as a designer from 1957 to 1969. Gerald Benney CBE was born in Hull in 1930. He studied at Brighton Art College and then at the Royal College of Art in London and established his first workshop in London in 1955. Between 1957 and 1969 he worked as a consultant for Viners, producing cutting edge designs for domestic objects in pewter, silver and stainless steel.
