This portrait shows 25-year-old Ruth Drummond Jackson (nee Graves) wearing a fashionable 1930s suit and bright yellow jumper while holding her gloves and scarf. Behind her you can see trees and possibly the Derbyshire landscape.
Ruth Julia Graves was born in Sheffield in 1905. She married Stanley Lithgow Drummond Jackson in 1939. Her father was John George Graves, a great benefactor to the city and instrumental in the development of Graves Gallery where his portrait, also by David Jagger, is on display.
