In the 1950s George Fullard was exploring similar themes and shared artistic and political influences with other British Realist artists, such as the Kitchen Sink painters.
While the Kitchen Sink works reflected the mundane domestic environments and issues affecting working British people, Fullard as a sculptor, was more interested in observing and modelling the people and street life he saw around him.
Fullard made many works about childhood and frequently incorporated the theme of the Mother and Child.
