James Hamilton (1589–1625) was Master of the Horse in King James I’s household, a position indicated by the spurs he wears. He moved to England from the Scottish court when James VI of Scotland became James I of England. Hamilton died in 1625, reputedly poisoned by the Duke of Buckingham, a rival favourite of the King.
