This dish is in the form of a halved 'Buddha’s hand citron’ fruit. The plant is often placed on Buddhist altars as an offering. The butterfly inside is a symbol for joy and marital happiness. It commonly appears with other motifs because its Chinese name 'die' has the same sound as the word meaning 'to repeat'. So here the wish is 'Happiness and longevity re-doubled.'
