An arm or wrist rest stops the writer from smudging the ink when writing calligraphy with a brush. This one shows the Daoist immortals in their imaginary mountain paradise. Daoist emblems include the dragon at the base, the pagoda in a cloud that symbolises goodness and a figure in a carriage holding a vase that is a symbol of peace.
